Breckenridge is known as one of North America’s best ski towns and is consistently nominated in magazines and blogs as one of the best places to live. You can pretty much count on a lot of snow during any given winter season!

But what, exactly, are some of the reasons that we do get so much snow? Long story short, we are surrounded by “fourteeners.” From Breckenridge, you can see Quandary, Grays Peak and Torreys Peak. From the top of Imperial Lift, you can see Mountain of the Holy Cross, Mt. Massive Mountain and, in the distance, Pikes Peak. These mountains have a huge influence on snow conditions. The towering peaks surrounding Breckenridge increase the chances of fresh snow at the ski resort. When moist air travels to the summit, it reaches a point of condensation, and voilà, it’s snowing!

Usually, the biggest snowfalls are produced from storms coming from the west, northwest and north.  Snow reports usually report snow falls in inches, however, the average snowfall here in Breckenridge is typically over 25 feet!
