With the 2020 Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships just around the corner, you probably would like to know how this event started - it is now one of the biggest and most visited events in Breckenridge! It all started in the 70s during Ullr Fest. Amateur teams started to make sculptures from giant heaps of snow in front of their shops on Main Street. Local realtors, Rob Neyland and Ron Shelton, made snow sculptures during every Ullr Fest in front of their real estate office. Breckenridge is known as one of North America's best ski towns and is consistently nominated in magazines and blogs as one of the best places to live. You can pretty much count on a lot of snow during any given winter season! But what, exactly, are some of the reasons that we do get so much snow? Long story short, we are surrounded by "fourteeners." From Breckenridge, you can see Quandary, Grays Peak and Torreys Peak. From the top of Imperial Lift, you can see Mountain of the Holy Cross, Mt. Massive Mountain and, in the distance, Pikes Peak. These mountains have a huge influence on snow conditions....

My favorite event in Breck is the International Snow Sculpting Championships. Because my birthday falls during the building week or viewing week each year, watching the volunteers create the blocks of snow, seeing the sculptors’ visions emerge and checking out the finished sculptures have been part of my annual celebration for nearly two decades. As one of the lodging sponsors for this event, it’s quite a treat to get to meet the teams and to follow their progress as they create art from snow! Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships

Join us at the Wedgewood Lodge to view the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships!  The sculptures will be under construction from January 27 - January 31, with judging to occur at 10AM on Saturday.  They will remain as long as weather permits until February 8.  We are currently running a special if you'd like to join us and see these beautiful pieces of work firsthand!  Book a reservation beginning on Sunday, February 1 or after and stay for two or more nights departing by February 6 and receive a 15% discount!
